A 61-year-old Suffield man was killed after a speeding teen driver collided with his car. A police officer saw two cars that seemed to be drag racing around 11 p.m. on Friday. The officer then saw that the car had gone through a stop sign at East Street intersection and crashed into a vehicle heading north. Collin McFarlane, 18, of Suffield, was the speeding driver who crashed into William Caruthers, 61, of Suffield. Caruthers was transported to Baystate Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.

Police think the driver may have been street racing in the car before it crashed, because it was enhanced and turbo charged, changes that could make it race car. Police said they had been watching Long Wharf for street racers recently, but say they can’t watch them 24-hours a day, and officers say the racers move quickly. “The races can be executed in a matter of a minute or two, and then they are gone,” said Hartman. Although sometimes street racers evade police, they play a dangerous game, not only with their lives, but the lives of other cars and people who share the roads.
