At about 9:21pm, police received a call regarding an accident where a pickup truck departed Route 11 and struck a pole, leaving the 18-year-old driver injured and Camba-Penera ejected from the vehicle and in critical condition. Both were taken to Hilo Medical Center for treatment, but Camba-Penera was pronounced dead early the next morning. Current reports say that the driver fell asleep while driving, and that high-speed and drugs are currently being investigated as contributors to this accident. Check back for updates.

It was early in the morning when a car driven by Linden Quintal, 18, that was headed southwest on Farrington Highway departed the roadway onto the sidewalk before colliding with a rock wall and a tree. Despite attempts to save the Quintal's life, he ended up being pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe that high-speed contributed to the cause and severity of the accident, and are currently investigating whether alcohol played a role. Check back for updates.

The man was taken to North Hawaii Community Hospital before being pronounced dead, and was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

The driver was not wearing a seat belt, and it is not clear at this time if alcohol or drugs were involved.
