Debra Shelton was driving her Ford Explorer on State Road 7 as she slowed for a turning vehicle. Sherriff's deputies say she was struck from behind by another SUV. 25-year-old April Sidwell was in her vehicle with her four children when her vehicle collided with Shelton's Explorer, sending it into the pond. Two Indiana State Troopers went into the pond, pulled Shelton from her seat belt to the surface and performed CPR. All injured persons were transported to the Jennings County emergency room. A trooper discovered that a 2001 four-door Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling east near 568 East Crothersville Road when it suddenly crossed into the eastbound lane, hitting a tree on the north side of the road. It then flipped into the ditch. A passerby discovered the crash when he got out of his vehicle to move the tree that had been struck by the pickup truck. Sgt. Jerry Goodin with ISP said the passerby heard children yelling for help, so he walked to the edge of the roadway and saw the overturned truck.
