Another driver came along to find the overturned tree in the road. He got out to move it and that’s when he heard children yelling for help in the ditch. He was able to help three children and a male adult out of the vehicle, but the driver was still trapped.

A trooper discovered that a 2001 four-door Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck was traveling east near 568 East Crothersville Road when it suddenly crossed into the eastbound lane, hitting a tree on the north side of the road. It then flipped into the ditch. A passerby discovered the crash when he got out of his vehicle to move the tree that had been struck by the pickup truck. Sgt. Jerry Goodin with ISP said the passerby heard children yelling for help, so he walked to the edge of the roadway and saw the overturned truck. The man assisted three children and a man out of the truck, but the driver remained trapped. Goodin said the driver was identified as Chris Caudill, 33, of DuPont, Indiana. An EMS crew took him by ambulance to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment. Three of the passengers, Mark Caudill, 31, of Dupont and Austin, Indiana residents Ellie Caudill, 8, and Emma Caudill, 5, were taken to Scott County Memorial Hospital. Nine-year-old Kaitleen Caudill of Austin was transported by air ambulance to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. All five sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
