The Vigo County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene of a one car accident just after 10:30 p.m. on Friday.

Officials report a 1999 Gold Mazda 4 Door ran off the road and struck the tree line on State Road 46 near Lama Road.

The male driver, Fred Peters, 77 of Sullivan, was found unresponsive and in cardiac arrest.

Peters was transported to Terre Haute Regional Hospital where he later died.

Chief Deputy Clark Cottom stated that Peters may have suffered a medical condition prior to the accident.

One man is dead following a one-vehicle crash on westbound I-70 this morning on the Eastside, but police suspect a medical condition might be the cause of both the crash and the man’s death.

The crash occurred before 5:45 a.m. today, an Indiana State Police trooper said, east of Emerson Avenue.

The truck crashed into the interstate’s inside retaining wall, police said.

Police at 7:45 a.m. were not yet releasing the man’s identity.

An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer was seriously injured when a semi hauling a boat hit his patrol car Friday morning. The incident happened on Washington Street at Cherry Tree Plaza, near Mitthoeffer Road. Police officials said the semi was going through the intersection as it turned red. The semi driver tried to swerve to avoid the IMPD car, but couldn't. He hit the officer's car, then veered off the road, going over a curb and through a fence before hitting an SUV.

Authorities in Bartholomew County responded to a fatal crash Thursday.

Chief Deputy Maj. Todd Noblitt with the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department says the crash happened in the 9000 block of East 25th Street shortly after noon.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police closed 25th Street from Bonnell Road east to State Road 9 because of the crash.
