The Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to reports of a crash at around 4:45 a.m. Thursday on I-20. A white GMC Envoy, driven 68-year-old Richard Atkinson of Jackson, was eastbound when he lost control and ran into the median. Atkinson overcorrected back onto the roadway and flipped, which caused him to be ejected from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Matthew L. Sciple was traveling on Highway 39 at about 8 a.m. when he lost control of his vehicle and it flipped. He was not wearing a seat belt and died of his injuries. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

At about 10:15am, a car driven by a woman in which three children were passengers slid on a patch of ice on Highway 9, which then caused the car to roll several times. The woman and one of the children were declared dead at the scene, and two other children were transported to the hospital via helicopter. One of them was eventually pronounced dead, and the other remains hospitalized. Few details are available at this time; check back for updates.

The victim is identified as Angela Monique James, 42, who died from traumatic head injury. He says she was not wearing a seatbelt. The driver, 37-year-old Aisha Howard was transported to Forrest General Hospital for treatment of moderate injuries. Howard's vehicle exited Interstate 59 around 1 p.m. Monday and crashed into a tree. He says the vehicle rolled over and James was ejected and was pronounced deceased at the crash site.
