According North Carolina Highway Patrol troopers, at around 6 p.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Antoinette Drive and U.S. 421/Carolina Beach Road near Monkey Junction a woman was westbound on Antoinette Drive when her car went off the road and into a ditch in front of a cemetery. The woman was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and was ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Two passengers, who were wearing seatbelts, were in the vehicle at the time and were not injured. We'll update this story as more information becomes available.

A 16-year-old girl not licensed to drive was the driver in a crash that killed a 17-year-old girl in Candler, Buncombe County. Celeste Perez, 17, of Waynesville, was killed in the wreck Sunday evening. The driver and a passenger, neither yet identfied, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. Authorities say speed was a factor in the crash when the 16-year-old lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and hit a tree. None of the occupants were wearing a seat belt and Perez was ejected from the car.

Neither Robertson or Engelmann were wearing a seat belt, and Robertson was ejected from the vehicle and died later at a local hospital. Engelmann was treated for injuries and then faces various charges including DWI.
