Unlicensed teen was driving in wreck that killed teen

Rhodes says it appears the girl was driving 55 mph in a 35 mph-zone. The wreck is still under investigation.
A 16-year-old girl not licensed to drive was the driver in a crash that killed a 17-year-old girl in Candler, Buncombe County. Celeste Perez, 17, of Waynesville, was killed in the wreck Sunday evening. The driver and a passenger, neither yet identfied, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. Authorities say speed was a factor in the crash when the 16-year-old lost control of the vehicle, ran off the road and hit a tree. None of the occupants were wearing a seat belt and Perez was ejected from the car.
