Tampa-St. Petersburg, FLA Winter Haven pilot landed his plane in a lake after his engine failed.
Eric McCoy, 48, was flying his 1946 North American Navion north from Winter Haven airport around noon when the engine began misfiring a sputtering. Polk deputies say McCoy sent out a "may day" call to the Bartow Municipal Airport tower. With limited options, McCoy retracted his landing gear and made a hard landing in Lake Hancock. The area where he landed was about 4 feet deep.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013A 2-month-old child and a pair of adults dodged death when a passing driver clipped their car on an icy road near Klamath Falls on Wednesday and sent both vehicles flying into an irrigation canal, police said.
Howard Kingman, of Sisters, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe north on U.S. 97 around 1:05 p.m. when he tried to pass a Toyota Prius near milepost 264, Oregon State Police said.
The 70-year-old driver lost control on the icy roadway and struck the Prius, which carried Robert Burton, 56, Bree Burton, 20, and her infant son, police said.

Boston, MAState Police are investigating the death of a 23-year-old woman found dead in a submerged car in Spencer.
Police found the woman dead in a 2009 Subaru Outback in a pond near Paxton Road.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Her name is not being released.

Jacksonville, FLAt least two people were killed when a small plane crashed into a retention pond in a Sandalwood neighborhood not far from Craig Airport, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
The Cesna 310 went down about 6:20 p.m. in a retention pond in the back yard of a home on Nettington Court, in the Sutton Lakes neighborhood off Atlantic Boulevard

New York, NYA paraglider pilot was killed after crashing through a frozen river in upstate New York Wednesday afternoon, state police say.
The pilot, 47-year-old Rupert Cebular, crashed while practicing touch-and-go maneuvers on the ice-covered Wallkill River near Soons Orchard in Orange County, police say. The man broke through the ice and lost control of the paraglider.
A second paraglider and workers nearby tried to pull Cebular from under the ice using a rope, but were unsuccessful. They eventually pulled his body from the river.

Minneapolis-St. Paul, MNA city spokesman says five children rescued from a car that veered off a highway ramp in suburban Minneapolis and landed in a holding pond were unresponsive when they were pulled from the water.
City spokesman Jamie Zwilling was on the scene of the accident Thursday morning in St. Louis Park at Highways 7 and 100. Zwilling says the mother of the children made it out of the car when it landed in the water but that the children were in the submerged car for about 20 minutes.

Seattle-Tacoma, WAA 14-year-old boy was killed Thursday night in a crash in Seabeck, said officials with the Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue. The crash happened around 10:45 p.m. in the area of Seabeck Holly Road and Larson Lane. Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue received a call in reference to a crash at the location. When crews arrived at the scene, they found a vehicle off the roadway and upside down in a creek. Two teens inside the vehicle got themselves out, but a third teen was trapped inside as the vehicle as it filled with water. Crews extricated the boy and started performing CPR.
