A press memo from the Washington State Patrol says a white 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by 25-year-old Matthew J. Mirelez was eastbound on Van Belle Road approaching Brien Lane when Mirelez swerved to miss a dog in the roadway. The driver then overcorrected, causing the vehicle to roll. Mirelez and a 3-year-old girl who was in the back seat were transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital. A front seat passenger, Melany R. Mirelez, 30, died from injuries sustained in the crash, which happened at 9:48 p.m. Saturday about two miles east of Granger.

A 16-year-old boy was critically injured in a Saturday night crash while riding with a driver arrested for DUI, police said. Will County Sheriff's police said the crash happened around 9:45 p.m. in the 400 block of Oak Street. According to police reports, a northbound 2005 Chevrolet Silverado crossed into the southbound lane, went into a skid, struck two trees on the passenger side and smashed into a mailbox and boulder on the side of the road. Deputies reportedly found the rear tire on the other side of the street and bottles of beer behind the passenger seat.
