The incident started when two cars got into a minor collision at the intersection of Royal Lane and Harry Hines Boulevard, and the at-fault driver chose to speed away rather than stop and communicated with the other driver. The man ran a red light and then got involved in a much more serious collision with another car, that caused his vehicle to overturn and smash into a pole. Both him and the female driver of the other vehicle were taken to the hospital, though the man was pronounced dead, and the woman was found to have serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
