A section of southbound US-131 was shut down for several hours Wednesday due to a jackknifed semi-truck and complications with clearing the scene of the wreck. The wreck occurred south of 100th Street in southern Kent County, and as a result, along with low visibility and other weather conditions, officials closed down the highway all the way to 142nd Avenue in Allegan County, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. An MDOT spokesperson said there were near whiteout conditions on the highway when the semi-truck wrecked.

One westbound lane of I-96 is shut down east of the Plainfield Avenue exit in Grand Rapids due to a wreck. The accident involves a semi-truck that slid off the road. There were several other slide-offs in the area. Westbound traffic is backed up, as the last exit ramp off westbound I-96 is at the East Beltline, which is several miles away. A stretch of southbound US-131 was shut down for a time south of Schoolcraft Monday due to a 13-vehicle crash. The wreck involved 12 cars and a semi-truck, according to Michigan State Police, and shut down the highway for about two hours. No one was hurt, MSP said. The crash was caused by a limited visibility due to blowing snow. Police advised avoiding southbound US-131 near Schoolcraft because blowing snow has continued to cause poor visibility. The westbound lanes of I-96 have reopened at E. Fruitport Road in Muskegon County after it closed due to multiple wrecks. The wrecks were reported by the Michigan Department of Transportation Monday afternoon. It was unknown how many vehicles were involved, and whether anyone was hurt.

Two people were killed in a single-car crash on Interstate 94 near Pelham Road in Allen Park early this morning, Michigan State Police said. The driver of the vehicle, a 2002 Nissan, lost control around 3:50 a.m., leaving the left side of the freeway’s westbound lanes, hitting the guardrail. The driver and a passenger in the front of the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Another passenger, in the back of the vehicle, was taken to Oakwood Hospital for treatment.

One person is dead and one person was taken to the hospital after a car and SUV crashed Saturday night in Grand Haven Township. Around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, authorities were called out to Mercury Drive and Robbins Road to a two vehicle crash. Authorities say two drivers, one driving a car and the other driving a SUV, were involved in the crash; one of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown if either vehicle had passengers.

A wrong way driver hit several vehicles including two Washington State Patrol cars on Interstate 5 in Tukwila Friday morning. It happened around 4 a.m. A WSP spokesman said an SUV with several people inside was headed the wrong way in the southbound lanes. Troopers say the underage driver is suspected of DUI. Troopers say the SUV may have traveled up to five miles in the wrong direction, hitting at least one other vehicle. "The initial calls came around Boeing Field, so we're talking 5 or 6 miles at least.

One person was killed Thursday afternoon in a multiple-vehicle accident that shut down eastbound I-94 near Michigan City, Indiana police said.

The crash involved seven semi-trailer trucks and several other passenger vehicles, police said. Other injuries were reported, but the extent of the injures is not yet known.

Police did not immediately release details on the cause of the crash at mile marker 36 in LaPorte County, but weather may have played a role.

The expressway was closed east of mile marker 34, police said.

Two people were injured in a wreck Thursday morning in Eaton County when a semi-truck hit a county public transit bus. It happened just before 8:30 a.m. at the intersection of E. Clinton Trail and Flanders Road in Eaton Township, east of Charlotte. An Eatran bus had just stopped at the intersection while headed south on Flanders Road, when it headed into the intersection and into the path of the semi-truck, which was headed east on E. Clinton Trail, according to the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office. There were two passengers, in addition to the driver, in the bus when the wreck occurred.

Twenty middle school students and a bus driver escaped injury today when their bus struck a car on Detroit’s west side. The bus clipped the rear of a white 2007 Chevrolet Impala, which was carrying three people, as both vehicles drove through the intersection at Heyden and Sawyer about 6:55 a.m., according to Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody. No one in either vehicle was hurt, and damage to the vehicles was minor because it was a slow-moving crash, Woody said. Apparently, the drivers were unclear about who had the right of way, Wood said.
