A Catholic priest was among several who rushed to help a 63-year-old woman hit by an alleged drunk driver while she was doing yard work.

A full day of Easter had just wrapped up at St. James Catholic Church in Nutbush and Father Richard Cortese had just stepped foot into the rectory for dinner when a different type of service unexpectedly called.

"Our neighbor was in there on the side working in her yard. I waved at her," said Cortese. "I heard this screeching of wheels and BAM," said Cortese.

A child is dead and three others were taken to the hospital after a car crash in Fayette County. Investigators say the driver lost control while making a beer run with four kids in tow.

When a Fayette County mother went to sleep, her children were safely at home. When she woke up, she found out that her three sons had been taken by helicopter to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital and one of their friends was dead.

A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident near Jefferson and Claybrook Friday night, according to police.

Around 9 p.m., officers found Toney Campbell, 46, lying in the street after being dragged and run over by a car. Campbell was transported to the Regional Medical Center in critical condition, where he later died.

According to police, Campbell was leaning inside the driver’s side window of a light colored minivan or SUV when the vehicle accelerated, swerving and dragging him.

A driver was killed and two passengers hurt early Friday when a sport utility vehicle overturned on Interstate 40 in Crittenden County.

The single-vehicle accident happened about 2:50 a.m. near the 270 mile marker west of West Memphis.

According to an Arkansas State Police report, 57-year-old Jerry L. White of Memphis was driving a 2001 Nissan Xterra east on the highway when the vehicle went out of control and crossed the median.

Police say the SUV then overturned, ejecting White and passenger Carlos Carter, 51, of Memphis.

Two Olive Branch police officers are considered heroes Friday morning after jumping into a lake to save a woman and her 7-year-old granddaughter from their sinking van.

Those officers took their oath to protect and serve to a whole new level and because of their quick actions a Mid-South family won't have to deal with tragedy right before the Easter holiday.

This accident happened in Olive Branch at a lake in the Maywood subdivision near Maywood Drive and Cedar Hill Lane around 10:15 Thursday night.

The man killed in a 10-car accident in Raleigh Wednesday apparently ran into several cars that were stopped for a red light, police said Thursday.

Memphis police aren’t releasing the name of the 58-year-old Bartlett resident. Six others were injured in the crash, including one 4-year-old, later identified as Maxximus Sales in critical condition. The accident happened just before 5:30 p.m. on Covington Pike near Raleigh-LaGrange.

A 25-year-old man was killed when his car left the interstate early Friday morning, police said.

Just after 3 a.m., Xavier Ware was heading westbound on Interstate 240 west of Jackson when his 2000 Jeep Cherokee veered off the roadway. The Cherokee then struck a guardrail before continuing on and hitting a utility pole. The Cherokee then rolled over, police said.

Paramedics pronounced Ware dead at the scene.

A two car crash in Memphis left one man dead late Saturday night.

Police say 33-year-old Josh Bichelman was making a left turn onto Walnut Grove Road from Mendenhall Road when 53 year-old Raymond Glover struck the victim's SUV.

Bichelman, who was not wearing a seatbelt, crashed head-first into a pole and died on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

Friends are mourning the loss of 19-year-old Keleian Braden Sunday night, another possible victim of street racing gone terribly wrong. It's happening in streets across the country, but far too often ends in tragedy. Brandon Roques says his 19-year-old brother Keleian Braden was a just spectator at a street race in Raleigh Saturday evening. "He's down here almost every Saturday, just so happened this Saturday he just got killed," said Roques.

A woman is behind bars and charged in a hit and run crash that killed a 59-year-old man from the Orange Mound community.

Curteria Leuellyn, 21, will face a judge Monday on a list of charges including vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident.

Police say Leuellyn was driving a Chevrolet Malibu she borrowed from a friend Saturday night. According to officers, she was driving on Deadrick Avenue near Hugenot Street, when she ran off the road and hit 59-year-old Curtis Echols on the sidewalk.
