What you need to know after a serious Utah car accident
The second auto-pedestrian accident within a week has Provo police pleading with both motorists and those on foot to exercise extra care.
Provo police said that a 23-year-old man was struck by a car just before 8 p.m. Thursday when he stepped into the intersection of 200 West and Bulldog Boulevard.
The victim had been standing on the northwest corner of the intersection and then entered a crosswalk southbound when the light turned green.
The vehicle that hit him had just made a right-hand turn and the driver did not see the man walking until it was too late.
A woman, Rosa Merino, was struck by a pickup truck in a Provo crosswalk Wednesday morning later died from her injuries at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
Provo police said the accident occurred at 6:20 a.m. as the woman was crossing westbound at the intersection of 700 N. University Avenue, about three blocks from Brigham Young University. It was still dark when the 1985 GMC pickup hit her.
A car sliding out of control Wednesday afternoon led to a toppled semi trailer and major delays in Utah County.
At about 3:20 p.m., a white northbound car slammed into the right wall on the side of Interstate 15 between Provo and Springville, the Utah Highway Patrol Trooper said. The car then slide across the freeway and hit the left barriers. As the car was coming to a stop in the middle of the freeway, a semi trailer hauling Xerox copies swerved to miss it and fell over.
