An accident in New Jersey is causing major rush hour delays at the Lincoln Tunnel heading out of New York City.
The accident occurred Thursday afternoon on the southbound eastern spur of the New Jersey Turnpike at Exit 15X in Secaucus.
The accident has been cleared, but there are heavy residual delays of at least one hour at the tunnel.
Traffic backed up along the Turnpike all the way along Route 495, and resulted in gridlock at the approaches to the tunnel.
The West Side Highway south was also brought to a standstill from 96th Street down to 42nd Street.
Harvard University says a student has died and others have been injured in a traffic accident in New Jersey as their van was returning from a weekend competition in Virginia.
Interim undergraduate Dean Donald Pfister said in an email to students on Monday that junior Angela Mathew was killed and other students were hurt, one seriously. They were members of the Harvard Mock Trial Association.
The association’s website says Mathew, from Albuquerque, N.M., was a director for its high school seminars.
Police say a 19-year-old died in a New Jersey car accident when the car he was a passenger in ran a stop sign, jumped a curb and hit a tree.
Francis Duffy was in the passenger seat of a car being driven by Conner Hanfin in Toms River when the accident happened at around 1:36 p.m. Friday.
Hanfin, who is in critical condition, ran the stop sign and crashed into the tree on Yellowbank Road near Vaughn Avenue.
Officials say they don't know if drugs or alcohol were involved in the crash.
Police in New Jersey are looking into a bus accident that left a woman dead.
The 65-year-old woman was run over by the rear wheels of a commuter bus in New Milford early Thursday.
Authorities say she had just stepped off a sidewalk along Center Street and Boulevard when she fell under the back wheels of a Coach bus around 6:45 a.m.
The woman was crossing the street to get to her home.
She was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
No criminality is suspected, but the investigation is ongoing.

The truck and three cars collided just after 2 p.m. on Thursday near exit 52 in Columbus, N.J.
The collision sent antifreeze and oil spraying all over the roadway. Crews spread sand to clear up the mess.
Cars backed up for at least at least two miles as emergency crews worked at the scene.
