Authorities have released the names of three people killed in a fiery collision in northeast Nebraska.
The accident occurred just after 9 a.m. Tuesday in southeastern Stanton County, about seven miles north-northeast of Clarkson.

Sheriff Mike Unger identified the three as 67-year-old David Schmid and his wife, 59-year-old Elaine Schmid, from Norfolk, and 53-year-old Derek Wrase, of Joice, Iowa.

Two women who were riding in the back of a pickup were killed in Talladega Tuesday afternoon when the vehicle was hit by an 18-wheeler.

Geneva Gardner, 40, and Winter Waites, 35, both of Talladega, were killed in the wreck at Jackson Trace Road and the Highway 275 Bypass in Talladega around 4 p.m. Tuesday, Talladega County Coroner Shaddix Murphy said.

Murphy said the pickup went through a stop sign and was hit by the 18-wheeler.

The pickup truck involved in a fatal crash on Interstate 5 south of Eugene had been stolen in the Portland area.

Oregon State Police say the pickup hit a disabled semi-truck on the shoulder Tuesday morning.

A passenger in the pickup died at the scene. She was identified as 22-year-old Christina Marie Armstrong. KVAL reports she had recently moved to Portland from Cape Coral, Florida.

A Tuesday afternoon truck accident in Drew County left a Texas man dead, the Arkansas State Police said.

Arthur Jean Wade Jr., 52, of Farmers Branch, Texas, was driving an International truck west on U.S. 278, west of Arkansas 277 near Monticello, when the truck ran off the road, hit some bushes and came to a rest shortly before 3 p.m., according to a preliminary state police accident report.

Wade was pronounced dead at 4 p.m. by Drew County Deputy Coroner Larry Scroggins, according to the report.

The Minnesota State Patrol is on the scene of a fatal crash west of the Twin Cities Tuesday morning.
Authorities were called to the area of Highway 7 and Highway 22, which is just east of Hutchinson, at about 5:33 a .m. on a report of a head-on crash involving two vehicles. Little information has been released about the crash, but the State Patrol said at least one person has been killed.

A 20-year-old Lakewood man was cited for driving under the influence after he was seriously injured Tuesday morning when the car he was driving slammed into an oncoming semi and burst into flames northwest of Fort Collins.

Stephen Lombardo, of Lakewood, was traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 287 at around 5 a.m. when his Pontiac Grand Prix crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with a semi that tried to avoid the crash, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Nate Reid said.

A 15-year-old Randleman High School baseball player was flown to the hospital after being hit by a car next to the school Tuesday morning.

The collision was reported around 11:10 a.m. on Tigers Den Road. The unidentified student was flown to UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The student was on the team charter bus heading for a state playoff game against Croatan when he realized he forgot his cleats, school district officials said. The bus pulled over.

The student ran in front of the bus and was hit by a car, school district officials said.

A retired Clearwater Police Officer who was working as a crossing guard, was killed Tuesday morning in a hit and run crash at a busy Clearwater intersection.

Clearwater Police say Doug Carey, 70, was standing on the sidewalk at about 9 a.m. when he was hit and killed by a car that spun out of control after a crash at Belcher Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard, which is also known as S.R. 60.

Police have not yet identified the man killed in a one-car crash in Kensington early Tuesday morning.

It happened at the intersection of Boudinot and Westmoreland Streets.

A Nissan Altima crashed into a wall at the intersection.

One man inside the car was pronounced dead at 1:30 a.m.

Police are also looking into whether the car may be connected to an alleged assault that occurred a short time before the crash, not far from the scene.

The Special Victims Unit is looking into that incident.
