Oklahoma City police are at the scene of an accident on Interstate 40 Friday morning.

According to officers, a tractor-trailer and car collided on the south side of the Rockwell bridge. Oklahoma Highway Patrol troopers say the driver of the tractor-trailer fell asleep and caused the collision.

The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the semi was not injured.

Interstate 40 was shut down in both directions in the Ludlow area in the Mojave Desert following a massive gas spill.

A semi-truck carrying liquefied petroleum gas liquid natural gas (according to Accident Data Center comment from Ken below) drifted into the median, landed in a ditch and overturned, spilling the gas.

Caltrans said the freeway is expected to be shut down until at least noon between Hector and Ludlow roads.

The route is heavily traveled by semi-trucks. Area residents reported smelling the spilled gas, but no evacuations were ordered.

A person was killed in a crash on Interstate 40 in Seminole County early Wednesday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported. The name of the driver had not been released Wednesday evening. The crash happened about 2 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-40 at mile marker 198 about 9 miles north of Seminole, the patrol reported. The driver was ejected and the car caught fire. It is not known if the driver wore a seat belt.

A 21-year-old woman died following a crash on Interstate 40 in Greensboro early Saturday morning.

Jasmine Shanice Goins of Greensboro was critically injured in the single-vehicle crash around 4:45 a.m. on the westbound side near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. She was taken to Moses Cone Hospital, where she died.

Goins was driving a 2007 Chrysler Sebring when it hit a guardrail to the right, went airborne and rolled over between the interstate and the MLK Jr. Drive exit ramp, Greensboro police said. Goins was ejected from the car as it rolled over, police said.

A woman died Sunday morning after her car hydroplaned on I-40 in Wilson County and crashed into a garbage truck. Tennessee Highway Patrol officials say 25-year-old Charity Williams was driving on I-40 westbound near mile marker 245 when her car hydroplaned, sending her across the median into oncoming traffic. Officials say Williams's car hit an oncoming garbage nearly head on. She was ejected from her car and killed. The accident happened just before 8 a.m. Eastbound traffic was affected and cleared by 11:00 a.m.

An Arkansas woman was killed Friday in a crash on Interstate 40 in Sequoyah County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.

Jana Dennis, 34, of Van Buren, Ark., was riding in a Ford F-150 shortly after 7 a.m. when the pickup ran off the road and rolled three times. Dennis was partially ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, Joel Burrough, 35, also of Van Buren, was thrown from the truck and was taken to Sparks Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark., in critical condition, according to the patrol.

Troopers in Burke County are responding to a deadly overturned tractor trailer crash on Interstate 40 eastbound that has shut down one lane.

One person is dead, according to NC Highway Patrol, and another person was taken to the hospital.

The incident was reported at 7 a.m. at mile marker 113 in Morganton, according to the NCDOT.

No word yet on what caused the semi to overturn though troopers say it wasn't ice.

Troopers stated that one man was driving and another was in the sleeper.

An 83-year-old woman from Durham died Sunday afternoon when police say she was hit head-on while traveling westbound on Interstate 40.

Preliminary information from a police officer at the scene indicates that at around 4:45 p.m., a man traveling eastbound on I-40, fell asleep at the wheel, crossed over all lanes of I-40 East and then over the median into the westbound lanes where he hit a driver head-on.

His vehicle overturned in the middle of the highway, and the vehicle he hit was pushed off the roadway and into a tree.

Troopers have identified the woman killed in a crash on Interstate 40 in Davie County early Tuesday morning.

Crystal Miller, 38, of Cleveland in Rowan County, died in the crash around 5:30 a.m. on the westbound side near mile marker 165 west of Mocksville.

Miller's vehicle drove off the road and ran into a tree, troopers said. She died at the scene.

Miller wasn't wearing a seat belt, troopers said. The seat belt might have saved her life, troopers said.

The crash is still being investigated.

A Raleigh man died Wednesday night after his car ran off the road on the westbound side of Interstate 40 in Johnston County and then flipped over the median cables and stopped on the eastbound side of the highway.

The State Highway Patrol said Ramsis Matta Soliman of 4634 Wedgewood Drive in Raleigh was near mile marker 322 at about 5:15 p.m. when his SUV went off the left side of the road, he over-corrected and went off the right side.
