A long holiday weekend has ended in tragedy after a Cheatham County man was killed when his four-wheeler plunged down a ravine. Wade Glick, 37, went for a ride Monday evening and somehow lost control of his ATV off Leatherwood Road. "We talked a little bit, and then he got on a four-wheeler and rode down, rode away," said his father, Dave Glick. Two hours after his son left, Dave Glick said police knocked at his door and gave him the awful news.

Police say 38-year old William Duitz was driving his ATV in the driveway in the 3800 of Monty Drive when for unknown reasons it went off the driveway and fell over a concrete embankment. The ATV fell about six feet and Duitz was thrown from the vehicle, and he died at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet at the time.

Ludlow police say a 27-year-old Belchertown man was killed early Saturday morning when the all terrain vehicle he was riding on Miller Street in Ludlow overturned and landed on top of him. Ludlow Police Sgt. David Belanger said Thomas Brown was transported to the Baystate Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Two people were hospitalized following an accident at Koval Lane near Harmon Avenue Monday morning. The accident happened shortly after 2 a.m. Police say the victims, 27-year-old Chris Leichtweiss, who was driving, and 19-year-old Tiffany Nelson, who was a passenger, were riding their moped southbound on Koval, when a vehicle rear-ended them. The impact sent the moped forward approximately 300 to 500 feet and caused Leichtweiss and Nelson to become separated from the bike.

An off-duty Marion County sheriff's deputy died Sunday in a motorcycle crash after hitting a pothole and losing control. Eric W. Stofer, 35, from Indianapolis, was riding a silver 2002 Suzuki motorcycle when he struck a pothole on southbound in the 8900 block of Acton Road about 7:30 p.m. Sunday, said Capt. Dave Bursten of the Indiana State Police. The accident occurred just south of Maze Creek Road in the far southeastern corner of Marion County. The motorcycle ended up on top of Stofer after the crash, Bursten said.

Authorities say a 30-year-old Hinesville man died in an all-terrain-vehicle wreck. Police say Dwayne Cornell Chapman was riding an ATV in Walthourville just after 6:30 p.m. Sunday when he lost control and struck a tree. Police say Chapman wasn’t wearing a helmet and suffered a head injury when he was thrown from the ATV. Chapman was pronounced dead at the scene.

A man riding a mini-bike the wrong way on a one-way street Sunday afternoon slammed into a car at an intersection, knocking out several of his teeth and causing critical head injuries, police said. The man, who turned 21 Monday, was not wearing a helmet during the 1:58 p.m. crash at East 25th Street and Chestnut Avenue, according to police.

In Shelby County, a 37-year-old man was killed in an ATV crash on Saturday night. Troopers said Larry Hal Dyer Pierce Jr. was riding the ATV six miles south of Alabaster. The ATV left the roadway and overturned. Authorities said Pierce was not wearing a helmet, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say 46-year-old Donald Davis of Millsboro was riding a scooter southbound on Cooper Road. While turning at a sharp left curve, investigators say he crossed into the northbound lanes, lost control and was ejected from the scooter, crashing into a ditch. Davis, who police say was not wearing a helmet, struck his head on the pavement and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say one person has died after a moped collided with a truck in Anderson County. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says the crash happened at around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Troopers say the driver of a 2009 Honda moped was traveling south, turned left into a private drive and struck a 1991 Nissan truck. Troopers say the moped driver was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver was not injured. Authorities are still investigating.
