36-year-old Eric David Wendschlag was driving a motorcycle north on I-15 when he crashed for unknown reasons shotly before 12:00 p.m. He sustained critical injuries and was taken to the hospital via helicopter, but was pronounced dead later that day. No further details were released.
One person was killed and one was injured in a car crash on north Interstate 15 near West Bernardo Road Saturday morning. A van and a pickup collided about 9:55 a.m. and veered onto the right shoulder of the freeway, with the rear ends of the vehicles partially up an embankment. One person was killed and the other was taken to a hospital.
At about 9:25 p.m., two vehicles collided on I-15. The driver of one of the vehicles, identified as Don Smith, exited his vehicle and attempted to cross the freeway to reach the other driver, but was hit by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital.
Jimmy Yoshio Kato, 75, was killed early Saturday morning after rear-ending a bus on I-15. The bus had pulled over on the side of the road when Kato crashed into it. Kato was pronounced dead at the hospital. We will update this story as more information becomes available.
A vehicle caught fire Saturday morning after a driver crashed into a car while driving on I-15. The incident happened on the southbound lanes as one car slowed down with traffice and the other did not, which caused one vehicle to rear-end the other. The incident caused Aliilotolelei Vaofusi to escape their vehicle as it caught on fire. the driver that hit Vaofusi, Nichole Weems, was arrested for suspicion of driving while under the influence.
At around 12:20pm, the rear tire of an SUV with several passengers malfunctioned, which caused the driver to lose control, strike the center guardrail, and flip upside-down into the opposing lanes. Of the people in the SUV, three died from the crash, including 2 women and 1 man, and three were injured. The 35-year-old woman and 21-year-old man that were injured were hospitalized with potentially serious injuries, and the 2-year-old girl that was injured was hospitalized with less serious injuries. A deadly ATV crash took place on Sunday. One person was killed and another one was injured during the rollover accident at mile marker 59 near Interstate 15. The male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene, while the female passenger was airlifted to a nearby hospital with bumps, a lot of bruises, and lacerations.
Stringfellow and her passenger were driving on Interstate 15 when she tried to pass a bus by pulling into the right lane and lost control of the vehicle. The car rolled down a steep bank and hit a tree. Neither teen was wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Stringfellow was declared dead at the scene and the passenger was flown via helicopter to a hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
