The driver of a pickup truck was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer in heavy fog on State Route 548 early Tuesday when he plowed head-on into an oncoming car, killing himself and the 18-year-old woman driving the car, the Washington State Patrol said. The pickup truck was being driven by Wesley B. Martin, 39, of Gautier, Miss. He was dead at the scene, the State Patrol said. Martin was driving eastbound on SR 548 east of Kickerville Road when he attempted to pass a semi in heavy fog, the State Patrol said.

A seven-year-old boy has been airlifted to Harborview Medical Center after being struck by a bus Thursday. The boy was a passenger on the bus and got off at Lummi Shore Drive near Ferndale. The boy crossed the street in front of the bus as the driver pulled away. The vehicle then rolled forward and over the boy. There is no word yet on the extent of the boy's injuries.
