A high school teacher died Friday when his car smashed into a school bus on U.S. 401 South near Lillington. State troopers said William Neil Parnell III, a teacher at South View High School in Hope Mills, was following the bus when the driver stopped near Stockyard Road to let off the last student from Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School. Troopers said Parnell did not brake and plowed into the back of the bus. Parnell, who was heading home to Lillington from work, died at the scene. No passengers were in the car.

Police have identified the 81-year-old man who was seriously injured in a crash on Highway 20 near Lebanon Thursday afternoon. Samuel Slaughter of Sweet Home suffered serious injuries in a crash involving a commercial truck pulling a semi trailer and a car. Oregon State Police said at about 1 p.m. a commercial truck pulling a semi-trailer stopped on westbound Highway 20 to wait for train to pass by so the driver could turn into a driveway.

Two people were hospitalized following an accident at Koval Lane near Harmon Avenue Monday morning. The accident happened shortly after 2 a.m. Police say the victims, 27-year-old Chris Leichtweiss, who was driving, and 19-year-old Tiffany Nelson, who was a passenger, were riding their moped southbound on Koval, when a vehicle rear-ended them. The impact sent the moped forward approximately 300 to 500 feet and caused Leichtweiss and Nelson to become separated from the bike.

A Vancouver motorcycle rider was critically injured Saturday evening in a crash on state Highway 14 in east Vancouver, according to the Washington State Patrol. Jefrey M. Hargrave, 36, of Vancouver was driving a 2008 Kawasaki ZX600 motorcycle west on the highway at a high rate of speed just before 9 p.m. Saturday when he crashed into the rear of an eastbound 2003 PT Cruiser where the highway passes under Interstate 205, according to WSP.

A police officer was critically injured in an early morning crash in Lodi. It happened on Route 46, across from Christopher Street. The Bergen County Office of Emergency Management says a 2012 Ford Fusion struck a Bergen County police officer's vehicle from behind. They say the driver, identified as 36-year-old Michael Ettz, then fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended a short time later by Lodi police.

A Maui woman is dead after she was hit by a vehicle in Lahaina on Monday afternoon. Police say 50-year-old Mary Fletcher of Kahului was on her moped, when she was hit from behind by a vehicle on Honoapiilani highway. She was pronounced dead at the hospital. The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries. This is Maui county’s eighth traffic fatality this year.

The Iowa State Patrol has identified the teenager killed in Sunday’s fatal crash on Interstate 80 in Coralville. According to the state patrol’s minimal crash report, Sambatu A. Ibit, 19, of Des Moines, was a passenger in the 2003 Toyota Corolla that lost control, hit the south wall of the interstate and was rear ended by a truck. The crash happened a 2:06 p.m. at the 239 mile marker of the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. Ibit was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

One person was killed in a crash Wednesday afternoon on Interstate-55 near south suburban Romeoville, state police said. A box truck crashed into the back of a semi before 3 p.m. on northbound I-55 near the Weber Road exit, police said. Video of the scene showed the front of the box truck was barely recognizable. One northbound lane of the interstate was reopend by 5 p.m. after being shut down for a couple of hours, but traffic remained snarled traffic in both directions as the crash investigation continued.

A Wake County school bus was involved in an accident at Louisburg Road and Fox Road just south of I-540 in Raleigh Tuesday afternoon. Pictures from the scene appeared to show a Dodge pickup truck rear-ended the bus. In all, six people were injured -- five students and the bus driver. Four were taken to WakeMed North and two to WakeMed pediatrics. All injuries appeared to be minor. School officials said there were about 24 students from Wake Early College of Health and Sciences High School on board.

The driver involved in a multi-vehicle accident in College Station late this morning has died. According to the College Station Police Department, 50-year-old Clifford Degner from Caldwell was having serious medical issues when his pick-up truck struck the back of a Lexus sedan causing the two vehicles to become stuck together. When the car turned right on New Main Drive, the two vehicles detached. Witnesses say Degner was slumped over the wheel. His truck hit a tree, fence and brick wall at the front entrance of campus, before coming to a stop.
