The Iowa State Patrol has identified the teenager killed in Sunday’s fatal crash on Interstate 80 in Coralville.
The Iowa State Patrol has identified the teenager killed in Sunday’s fatal crash on Interstate 80 in Coralville. According to the state patrol’s minimal crash report, Sambatu A. Ibit, 19, of Des Moines, was a passenger in the 2003 Toyota Corolla that lost control, hit the south wall of the interstate and was rear ended by a truck. The crash happened a 2:06 p.m. at the 239 mile marker of the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. Ibit was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The state patrol said Onkel Dide, 27, of Ottumwa was the driver of the Corrola. The crash report does not indicate what contributed to the driver losing control. The truck was driven by 50-year-old Mark Mclain of Russell, Iowa. Dide was injured in the crash, as were three passengers in the Corolla - Husen Jagir, 50, of Denison; Salim Gulay, 38, of Des Moines; and Afa Gella, 34, of Denison. They were all transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment. Neither Dide, Ibit or the other three passengers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, according to the state patrol.
