An autopsy has determined the identity of a man killed in a horrendous auto-pedestrian accident on Interstate 80 near the Utah-Nevada border earlier this week.

Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce said the State Medical Examiner’s Office had determined the victim of the early Monday morning accident was 20-year-old Christian Gutierrez, of Wendover.

Why Gutierrez was walking in or near the westbound lanes of I-80 about 1 mile east of Wendover remained unknown, however.

Utah Highway Patrol identified the body of a man killed on I-80 near Wendover.

Officers say 20-year-old Christian Gutierrez was run over several times.

Troopers say they found his body in the road after responding to a call around 3:30 a.m. Monday morning.

Police are still trying to figure out why he was on the road to begin with.

Two subcontractors working on a lane restriping project on eastbound Interstate Highway 80 in Fairfield Thursday evening were struck and injured by an alleged drunk driver, according to the California Highway Patrol. The contractors, employees of O.C. Jones & Sons, Inc., were closing the second lane of the ramp from eastbound Interstate Highway 80 to eastbound state Highway 12 using a trailer with an arrow board when the collision occurred around 9:15 p.m., CHP Officer Chris Parker said.

A woman and a small boy who died Thursday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 80 near Madison Avenue were from Southern California. The Sacramento County Cororner’s office identified the victims of the car crash as Carrie Tricia Sears, 40, of Encino and Skylar Eubanks, 4, of West Hills. Encino and West Hills are neighborhoods in the city of Los Angeles in the San Fernando Valley.

The Iowa State Patrol has identified the teenager killed in Sunday’s fatal crash on Interstate 80 in Coralville. According to the state patrol’s minimal crash report, Sambatu A. Ibit, 19, of Des Moines, was a passenger in the 2003 Toyota Corolla that lost control, hit the south wall of the interstate and was rear ended by a truck. The crash happened a 2:06 p.m. at the 239 mile marker of the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. Ibit was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A Roy, Utah man was killed Thursday night when he crashed on a curve and rolled on Interstate 80 about 19 miles east of Rock Springs, Wyo.

Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Stephen Townsend said that several motorists told troopers that the 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix being driven by 33-year-old Nathaneal Chase had been traveling at excessive speed westbound about the time of the crash.

Chase, who was partially ejected from his car as it rolled off the left side of the freeway, was dead at the scene.

An 18-year-old pickup driver from Ogallala has died in a collision on Interstate 80 near North Platte in western Nebraska.

The accident occurred around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday about three miles west of North Platte. Authorities say an eastbound pickup went out of control and crossed the median, striking a westbound semitrailer.

The pickup driver was identified as Timothy Dovel. The semitrailer was identified as 58-year-old Herbert Wilson, of Okeechobee (oh-kuh-CHOH'-bee), Fla. He was not injured.

A woman has died after her car was crushed by a falling tree as she drove down I-80 Sunday. The incident happened around 1:43 p.m. along westbound I-80 near the Cherry Glen Road off-ramp just outside of Vacaville. According to California Highway Patrol, the car was hit by a falling tree, then continued on for about a fourth of a mile before finally crashing into the center divide. A windshield left behind on the roadway shows some of the damage. The driver – identified as a 23-year-old Kenneisha Dale from Oakland – was the only occupant in the car.

Two Baltimore men were pronounced dead following a tractor-trailer accident in Pennsylvania early Thursday morning. The victims, David Flores, 29, and Jesus Chavez, whose age isn't known, were in the roadway on westbound Interstate 80 in Porter Township, Clinton County at around 2:55 a.m. when the vehicle struck them, according to a Pennsylvania State Police report. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not harmed. The vehicle was traveling approximately 60 to 65 miles per hour at the time of the crash, police said. The posted speed limit in the area is 65 miles per hour.
