One person was killed and two others critically injured after a head-on crash involving three vehicles in Phoenix on Tuesday morning. The crash closed Indian School Road near North 61st Drive about 8:15 a.m., according to police. The driver of a brown older-model Buick LeSabre crossed the center line and collided with a silver 2000 Hyundai and a Subaru Outback, Phoenix Police Sgt. Trent Crump said. Three people were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, including the driver of the Buick. That person died at a hospital, Crump said.

Authorities say two are dead, including the hit-and-run driver who left the scene of a minor wreck, sped down the road and caused the second, deadly collision.

Phoenix Police said around 6:45 p.m. Saturday 50-year-old Francisco Sanchez was driving an Expedition northbound on 83rd Avenue at Pomo Street when he crossed the median and collided head-on with a Tahoe driven by 41-year-old Miriam Gonzalez.

Thompson said both drivers died at the scene of the wreck.

Phoenix police are investigating a car crash that killed two people near 83rd Avenue and Durango Road, according to officials.

The collision involved two SUVs and a smaller vehicle.

The two drivers of the SUVs died at the scene, while the driver of the car was transported to a nearby hospital.

Traffic traveling north and south bound on these roadways are closed until further notice, Phoenix police spokesman Tommy Thompson said.
