Two die in hit and run accident

Authorities say two are dead, including the hit-and-run driver who left the scene of a minor wreck, sped down the road and caused the second, deadly collision.

Authorities say two are dead, including the hit-and-run driver who left the scene of a minor wreck, sped down the road and caused the second, deadly collision.

Phoenix Police said around 6:45 p.m. Saturday 50-year-old Francisco Sanchez was driving an Expedition northbound on 83rd Avenue at Pomo Street when he crossed the median and collided head-on with a Tahoe driven by 41-year-old Miriam Gonzalez.

Thompson said both drivers died at the scene of the wreck.

Following the impact, a third car was unable to avoid the wreckage in the southbound lanes and ran into the back of the vehicles. No one in this car was seriously injured, said Thompson.

Thompson said Sanchez had just fled the scene of a minor collision just south of the deadly wreck.

The accident investigation kept the street closed late into the night.
