Authorities have identified a man killed early Wednesday in a crash on Interstate 59.
The Jefferson County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Mitchell Ray Toombs. Toombs, 23, was from Ashville.
The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes between Roebuck Parkway and First Avenue North. Authorities said Toombs' vehicle left the roadway and hit a guardrail.
He got out of his vehicle and was walking around looking over the damage when a second vehicle struck him, police said. That vehicle also hit the victim's already-wrecked vehicle.
