Jerry Shafer, a well-known competitive cyclist, was remembered by family and friends on Wednesday at the Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond. Shafer passed away Saturday morning after colliding with a car near Woodinville on 240th Street SE in unincorporated Snohomish County. Shafer died at the scene from injuries he received after he struck an oncoming vehicle during his attempt to pass cyclists ahead of him. Wednesday night cyclists raced in remembrance of Jerry Shafer.

Gig Harbor man is under arrest after his SUV collided with a motorcycle Saturday night and he allegedly fled the accident. The motorcyclist died at the scene near Purdy. The accident happened on State Route 302 in the 14500 block around 11 p.m. Saturday.  The SUV was northbound on SR 302 with the motorcycle heading southbound in the opposite direction. The SUV turned left, colliding with the motorcycle.  The SUV driver, a 43-year-old man, drove off from the accident scene. The State Patrol was able to locate and arrest the man about  3 1/2 hours later.

The Washington State Patrol said a 78-year-old woman caused a crash on Interstate 5 near Mount Vernon when she turned around and started heading the wrong way. The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. near Anderson Road when the Oak Harbor woman, who was heading southbound, turned around and headed northbound. The state patrol said the woman crashed head-on into a 29-year-old driver in the far left lane.

a man from a crumpled SUV that had burst into flames in Shoreline after a crash. The SUV crashed around midnight in Shoreline near the corner of Greenwood Avenue North and Westminster Way. Police said the SUV was heading northbound on Greenwood and lost control on the curve onto Westminster on wet pavement.
