A Newport News man lost his life in a motorcycle crash on Interstate 81 Monday afternoon.
Deborah Cox with the Virginia State Police said the crash happened around 3 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Interstate 81 near the 48 mile marker in Smyth County. Witnesses told troopers a motorcycle was traveling north when it went off the left side of the road.
The motorcycle hit a guardrail and the driver, identified as Robert Henry Webber, 69, of Newport News, was ejected. He died at the scene.
The names of two men who were involved in a crash on Interstate 81 yesterday, which resulted in one of them being killed, have been released.
James C. Hoover, 54, Stone Park, Illinois, received fatal injuries after being ejected. His passenger, Jackson David Meadows, 45, Knoxville, received non-life threatening injuries.
Virginia State Police say three people are dead after a car slid into a tractor-trailer parked along Interstate 81 in Washington County.
State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says the southbound tractor-trailer's driver pulled the rig off onto the shoulder after it had a flat tire.
Geller says a southbound car ran off the interstate's left side and its driver overcorrected. The car then slid sideways and hit the tractor-trailer's rear.
