Hess, of Williamstown, Ky., was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival at a Cincinnati hospital. The accident occurred when Hess crossed the intersection with the train. The northbound Norfolk Southern Railroad train then struck the truck. Preliminary investigation shows that the crossing signals were in working order.

Two people were airlifted to UC Medical Center after a frightening accident on Interstate 75 on Monday.

The Boone Co. Sheriff's Office said a truck was northbound in the center lane near Walton just before 7 p.m. when the truck moved into the left lane, forcing a car in that lane into the median wall before ending up under the truck's trailer.

Firefighters put the trailer's wheels on blocks and were able to cut a door off the car to extricate both patients, Christopher York, 33, of Verona, and Anna Speier, 44, of Bromley.
