A woman was killed in  a wrong-way car collision near Woodinville Friday morning. Around 5:53 a.m. a vehicle traveling east in the westbound lanes of Highway 522 crashed another car head-on. The wrong-way driver was deceased at the crash site, and the other driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the crash remains under investigation. All westbound lanes of Highway 522, just west of Interstate 405 were closed after the crash which happened at approximately 6 a.m.

The mountain biker who died while riding on a trail Saturday in the Paradise Valley Conservation Area has been identified. Steven D. Quinton, 56, of Monroe, died of blunt force injuries of the head on the Woodinville trail, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office. Hikers discovered the biker, performed CPR and called for help, the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office said. He was declared dead by first responders. The medical examiner’s office classified his death as an accident.

Jerry Shafer, a well-known competitive cyclist, was remembered by family and friends on Wednesday at the Marymoor Velodrome in Redmond. Shafer passed away Saturday morning after colliding with a car near Woodinville on 240th Street SE in unincorporated Snohomish County. Shafer died at the scene from injuries he received after he struck an oncoming vehicle during his attempt to pass cyclists ahead of him. Wednesday night cyclists raced in remembrance of Jerry Shafer.
