Police Monday night charged a 54-year-old Deerfield man with driving while intoxicated – his fourth offense – following an accident Monday night on Route 2A at River Street that left a pregnant woman with a fractured arm and other injuries, police said.

The driver, Michael Thorpe of 784 River Road, Deerfield, was charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, fourth offense, and failure to use care in turning.
Police said he appeared unsteady on his feet, was slurring his speech and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.
