Suffolk County Police today arrested a Coram man for driving while intoxicated after his vehicle struck and killed his friend, a pedestrian, in Setauket early this morning.

Suffolk County Police Sixth Precinct officers responded to Nesconset Highway, west of Old Town Road, at 4:11 a.m. for a 911 call regarding a woman on the side of the road with a serious head injury.

Upon arrival, officers observed Lawrence Pagano at the scene trying to assist the victim, a 21-year-old Coram woman named Krystal Berkowitz. It was determined that Pagano called 911 to report the injury.

A 33-year-old man has died after he crashed his motorcycle in Haleiwa in the early hours on Saturday. The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office identified the victim as 33-year-old Christopher Danley of Honolulu. Emergency crews responded just before 1 a.m. According to police, the man lost control of his motorcycle when turning from Weed Circle Junction onto Kamehameha Highway, where he hit a guard rail and landed in nearby bushes. Investigators say he was not wearing a helmet, and speed and alcohol may have been factors in the crash.

Two Randolph High School football players, who were close friends, died this weekend when the car they were riding in with two other classmates veered off the road and crashed. One of the two teenagers killed had survived another car accident less than four months ago, friends said. Jack Timmerman and Calvin Verduga, both 17, were remembered yesterday as charismatic young men who were rarely seen apart. "They were friends from childhood," Jack’s mother, Jackie Timmerman, said. "Calvin and Jack were like best buddies."

The Rabun County coroner has identified the pilot killed when his small plane crashed in northeast Georgia over the weekend. The director of Rabun County's Emergency Management Agency, Mike Mazarky, said the plane crashed Saturday morning after taking off from a private airport west of Clayton. The pilot was identified as Ernest Merkelis, 62, of Clayton, according to the coroner. The plane carried no other passengers. Investigators at the Federal Aviation Administration were expected at the crash scene on Monday.

New Jersey State Police say a two-vehicle crash on the southbound Garden State Parkway in Stafford Township on Saturday remains under investigation.

Shorty before 3 p.m., a driver of a pick-up truck traveling south on the parkway cut into the path of a car also traveling southbound. The truck struck the driver’s side door of the car, causing both vehicles to lose control and veer off the road.

Two adults in the car, both females, were pronounced dead at the scene. They were identified as 69-year-old Frances Hill and 45-year-old Naomi Johnson, both of Turnersville.

The man who was killed in a Friday crash on U.S. 30 near Astoria has been identified as Bryce William Saranpaa, 43, of Warrenton.

Oregon State Police said the crash occurred just before 7 p.m. after a westbound 1999 Toyota Tacoma crossed the centerline on U.S. 30 and sideswiped an eastbound 1993 Ford pickup truck.

The Toyota driver, 38-year-old Michelle Lynn Fletcher, was flown to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center with serious injuries. One passenger, Arthur Romine Jr., did not suffer injuries.

A 48-year-old Dallas, Oregon man died in a fiery crash on Interstate 5 south of Wilsonville Friday.

Lt. Gregg Hastings, an Oregon State Police spokesman, said a northbound 1993 Buick Regal went off the road near Milepost 281, about three miles south of Wilsonville, around 11:55 a.m.

He said the car went through the shoulder, through grass for about 200 feet and crashed into a tree. The car then burst into flames.

The driver, identified as Emuel James Smothers, died at the scene. Hastings said the crash remains under investigation.

The Coroner's Office has identified the bicyclist hit and killed by a car near the South Point Hotel and Casino Friday night.

He's 41-year-old Cesar Augusto Flores.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard between Pyle and Cactus avenues. According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, a 36-year-old female driver of a Nissan Maxima struck the bicyclist. The 41-year-old male bicyclist died while being transported to the hospital. The driver did stay at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Authorities have identified the Oregon motorcycle rider who died after a high speed crash on the highway in Salem.

Oregon State Police say 53-year old David Leary Schneller of Tualatin lost control of his Harley Davidson bike Friday night while passing other vehicles on Interstate 5 at about 90 to 95 miles per hour.

A state trooper who witnessed the crash saw the rider being ejected from the motorcycle as it crashed in the center northbound lane.

The California Highway Patrol confirmed two men and two women were inside a car that crashed Friday night. The CHP said the driver, 36-year-old Robert Frederick, was traveling at high speeds when he veered off Highway 44 and rolled his car several times. The crash happened near Tompata Trail around 9:20 p.m. A witness helped the four people inside get out before the car erupted in flames. On Sunday the CHP said the woman killed in the crash was 16-20 weeks pregnant. All four people were taken to Mercy Medical Center, including one by helicopter.
