A 20-year-old motorcyclist died Wednesday when he flew off his bike and hit a pickup, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The man was riding his 2013 Ducati Monster on westbound state Route 94 at 1:44 p.m. when he went to transition onto southbound Interstate 15.

The CHP said the man entered the turn at 60 mph despite a suggested speed of 30 mph. The motorcyclist tried to brake, but as a result the bike went off the road and struck a median.

An SUV carrying two people and two dogs rolled off the right shoulder and down an embankment on Interstate 15 on Wednesday, catching fire, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The car was traveling southbound around 1:10 p.m. near Gopher Canyon Road when somehow it veered off the road.

A husband and wife, both about 50, suffered minor injuries, while the dogs ran out of the car and were loose for nearly two hours before being corralled.

The cause of the accident was still being investigated, but no alcohol was involved.

A 79-year-old woman died after being struck by a car Christmas night.

Police say Insook Choi, of Billerica, was hit on Boston Road shortly before 8 p.m.

She was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital, then Lahey Clinic in Burlington where she later died.
Boston Road was closed for three hours as police investigated.

Police say it appears Insook was crossing Boston Road outside of a crosswalk in a poorly lit area when the crash occurred.
No charges or citations have been filed against the driver.

A woman was killed late Christmas night while trying to cross train tracks near the Arlington-Grand Prairie line.

The incident occurred just before midnight at Division Street and Great Southwest Parkway. According to police, the train was traveling roughly 50 mph.
Authorities say — although the crossing arm was down — the woman went under it, tried to cross the tracks, and was hit by the train.

A light-rail train struck and killed a woman in San Jose early Christmas morning, officials at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority said.

The train was northbound on A light-rail train struck and killed a woman in San Jose early Christmas morning, officials at the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority said.

The train was northbound on Highway 87 south of the city when it hit the woman at about 1:30 a.m., about 100 to 200 yards from the Curtner Light Rail Station, officials said.

A single-vehicle wreck killed one person on Christmas Day. South Carolina Highway Patrol said a motorist died after a crash on S.C. 66 just after 6 p.m. Wednesday. Troopers said a pickup truck ran off the right side of the road, hit a sign and a guide wire, overturned and hit a tree. Authorities said the crash trapped the driver. The driver was removed from the car, taken to Laurens County Medical Center and pronounced dead. The coroner has not released the victim’s identity.

A man died in Everett on Christmas when the truck he was working on fell on him. The accident was reported around 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of 100th Street SE. The man was believed to be in his 50s. Neighbors were able to get the truck off of him and start CPR, but he later died, Snell said.

Authorities say a Minnesota man was fatally struck by a car on Christmas as he tried to capture his wandering dog on an Iowa highway. The Iowa State Patrol says 74-year-old Lawrence Anderson, of Marine on St. Croix, Minn., walked into Interstate 35 in south central Iowa on Christmas night. Authorities say Anderson’s car was stranded, and his dog escaped from the vehicle. Shelton Short, of Osceola, was driving an SUV and struck Anderson as he tried to capture the dog. The 34-year-old told authorities he didn’t see Anderson.

Two people were killed and two others, including an infant, were injured after a vehicle crossed the center line and hit another vehicle Wednesday in Morris, Washington County, authorities said. Shari L. Cox, 46 of Prosperity, was driving a jeep traveling north on Route 18 at Conklin Street when she crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a SUV driven by Stephen Michael Breese, 28, of Washington, Pa., Pennsylvania State Police and the Washington County coroner's office said.

A pedestrian was killed Monday night after being hit by a car in the area of 800 Silver Lane, police at the scene said.

An accident reconstruction squad was called in to investigate the accident, which was reported at 7:24 p.m.

The victim, a 51-year-old local man, was taken to Hartford Hospital with serious injuries and later died, police said.

No charges have been filed against the driver and early indications are that the pedestrian stepped into traffic.
