Seven people were injured when a dump truck carrying a trailer that was southbound on I-5 crossed the median into northbound traffic, striking several vehicles. The driver, Joseph M. Steiner, 60, is believed to have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash. Some of the injuries are believed to be critical.
According to Massachusetts State Police, a 56-year-old Somerville woman suffered a medical incident while driving on Friday morning, causing her car hit a Honda Civic, which became engulfed in flames on McGrath Highway near Highland Avenue. The Civic driver, a 26-year-old Medford woman, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries. A 16-year-old boy was walking in the area of the crash when he was struck by a car, and he and the Somerville woman were also transported in serious condtion to MGH with serious injuries.
Shortly after 3:00pm, a car driven by a 94-year-old man rear-ended a Ford sedan and then spun into a Chevrolet. The 94-year-old man was killed, and his 86-year-old wife was injured but is stable. Neither of the other drivers were seriously hurt.
