Washington & Lee University says a traffic accident has killed one student and injured nine others. A university spokesman says in a statement posted on the school's website that Kelsey Durkin of New Canaan died in a single-vehicle accident Tuesday in Rockbridge County. Ruscio says six students were treated at a hospital in Lexington and released. Three students were transported from the Lexington hospital to other area hospitals. The driver of the car has been charged with DUI.

An Idaho man was killed Sunday morning when his car was struck by a suspected drunken driver in Lewiston. Paul W. Stuk, 53, of Peck, Idaho, died at the scene of the 4:39 a.m. collision at 21st and East Main streets. Kyle N. Rios, 24, of Lewiston, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating beverages or drugs and leaving the scene of an injury accident, Lewiston police said. The Lewiston police Major Accident Investigation team was investigating.

A 16-year-old is in trouble with the law after Upper Allen Township police in Cumberland County say the teen fled the scene of a crash and was driving under the influence. Police responded to a hit-and-run crash around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday along the 1700 block of North Meadow Drive. "The striking vehicle fled the scene and was located by police several blocks away. The 16 year old juvenile driver admitted to having been driving at a high rate of speed, causing the vehicle to strike a curb which caused property damage and disabling damage to the vehicle," a police news release states.

Authorities have arrested a man they say sped through a red light and crashed into vehicle, killing an Ocala couple. The Florida Highway Patrol arrested 30-year-old Allen Cole Godwin on Thanksgiving Day. He's charged with two counts each of DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide in the Oct. 24 crash that killed 67-year-old Ray Allen Kraus and his 64-year-old wife Pamela Jean Kraus. The FHP estimates Godwin was travelling 78 mph when he ran the red light. Tests revealed his blood-alcohol level was .19, well above the state's legal limit of .08.

A Mechanicsburg teenager was arrested Thursday night after police in Upper Allen Township said the 16-year-old was found driving under the influence of drugs in a hit-and-run crash. The incident occurred around 8:25 p.m. in the 1700 block of North Meadow Drive. A BMW Sedan, which was located by police several blocks away, struck a curb and caused property damage in the area of the crash. The sedan also sustained disabling damage in the incident.

Weather may have played a role, but alcohol was behind the arrest of a Buffalo motorist whose car went off Route 219 in the Town of Concord early Wednesday morning, Erie County sheriff’s deputies reported. Lorie L. Darnley, 40, was arrested after a deputy investigated a report of a car off the road at about 2:40 a.m., finding her car stuck in the snow in the median near Trevett Road.

A Chicago police officer and two others were injured in an alcohol-related crash in the Englewood neighborhood early Wednesday. The crash, which involved a squad car, occurred about 12:45 a.m. in the 7400 block of South Halsted Street, police said. Two police officers from Gresham District were standing on the street conducting a traffic stop when a dark-colored SUV struck the passenger door of the officers’ squad car, police said. One officer and the two men who were initially stopped were struck by the car, police said.

7-year-old girl was killed and her mother was seriously injured Tuesday when an out of control sports utility vehicle hit the two on a Dorchester sidewalk, Boston police said. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Olivia Mora, of Concord, N.H., will face charges of motor vehicle homicide and driving under the influence, police said. The incident happened on Olney Street about 2:15 p.m., as the girl and her mother were walking from the Holland Elementary School, just a block away, according to police.

Two separate crashes left police officers in two different counties hospitalized. And in both cases, the drivers were possible intoxicated. The first wreck left a Bensalem police officer hurt after her police cruiser was hit by a van on Sunday night in Lower Southampton Township. Lower Southampton police confirmed to NBC10 that the officer was involved in the crash at Brownsville and Old Street Road around 7:30 p.m. The officer was taken to Aria Torresdale hospital with neck and back pain.

Two state troopers were hurt in a crash in Revere early Monday morning and State Police say one of them was driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Trooper John Phonesavanh pulled over a Honda Accord on Route 1 south in Revere around 1 a.m. While he was in his cruiser parked in the breakdown lane writing a ticket, a Toyota Corolla slammed into the back of his car. The impact of the crash pushed the cruiser into the Honda. State Police say the driver of the Toyota was 43-year-old off-duty trooper Shawn D’Amato.
