Washington State University student Silvia Muro-Escalante was headed west on State Route 26 just after 6 p.m. when her car left the roadway and rolled 40 yards. Her passengers, Karen Rodriguez and Magly Mendoza-Salinas, were also injured, and a third passenger was uninjured. Two people, later identified as Nancy Zepeda Zarate and Ashley Marie Gonzalez, both students and Eastern Washington University, were killed in a vehicle collision involving a semi just before 5 a.m. Friday near Colfax, the Washington State Patrol said. Southbound lanes of Highway 195 are blocked as crews investigate and work to clear the scene. Medstar was launched for other serious injuries from the accident. A WSP Trooper said there were four occupants of the passenger vehicle struck by the semi.
Vehicular assault charges are pending against a Clarkston woman after an accident Wednesday night on state Highway 195 north of Rosalia. Savanna Brown, 26, was under the influence of alcohol or drugs when her Gray 2007 Chrysler sedan crossed the centerline and hit a Chevrolet pickup driven by Alan Evans, 60, of Oakesdale. Brown was injured and taken to Deaconess Medical Center. Authorities do not know whether she was wearing a seat belt. Evans’ passenger, Randi Evans, 64, who was wearing a seat belt, was injured and also taken to Deaconess.
