A 29-year-old man was killed after a hit-and-run driver blew a stop sign and crashed into his car early Wednesday in Staten Island, cops said. Felipe Avila was driving a 1996 Toyota Celica north along Lafayette Ave. in New Brighton when a white 2003 Volvo S80 going east on Cassidy Place didn’t stop and slammed into him just after 5 a.m. Wednesday, cops said. The Volvo’s driver then slammed into a parked Dodge SUV. The driver stopped only to ditch his ride and run away. Avila died en route to Richmond University Medical Center, cops said.

A 22-year-old man was killed when a car plunged into a canal off the Hudson River in Jersey City early Wednesday, police say. Marc Puich was pulled out of the Morris Canal about two hours after he drove off a parking lot on Liberty View Drive, crashed through a steel barrier and then dropped into the waterway. He was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water at around 3:30 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 4-year-old child died after he was run over on a private driveway in Buras on Wednesday, authorities said. The preliminary investigation revealed that Hai Hoang Thanh Huynh, 32, of Buras, was backing out of his driveway at 125 Circle St. when he struck his son, identified as Vincent Huynh. The man attempted to drive his son to a hospital but was stopped by a Plaquemines Parish sheriff’s deputy for speeding. During the stop, the deputy discovered that the child had died. Speed and impairment are not suspected as factors of the accident, authorities said.

A Greenville woman was hit and killed on Wade Hampton Boulevard late Wednesday night, authorities said. Angela Bright, 55, of 2413 Wade Hampton Blvd., died of blunt force trauma about 30 minutes after she was hit, said Greenville County Coroner Parks Evans. Bright was attempting to cross the road at 2420 Wade Hampton Blvd. when she was hit in the northbound lane by a 1982 Honda at 8:45 p.m., said a state trooper. She was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where she died, he said.

A pedestrian was critically injured when he was struck by a car at East Powell and Northeast Liberty Wednesday evening. Witnesses told police the man was crossing Northeast Liberty Street near East Powell Boulevard when he was hit by an eastbound Honda. The man was taken to a hospital in critical condition. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors, police said. The roadways were closed for a time after the collision.

A deputy was injured in a violent pursuit in Fairfield on Wednesday during the a pursuit of a stolen vehicle. The Solano County deputy’s car sheared off a light pole and hit another pole at Highway 12 and Pennsylvania Avenue. The deputy was taken to the hospital with what are described as non-life-threatening injuries. The accident came at the end of a high-speed chase involving a stolen vehicle. One of the suspects was arrested at the scene, while another fled, but was caught later. How can a lawyer help with an auto accident claim?

Emergency workers in Robertson County can't believe a man walked away from a terrible accident without being seriously hurt. Police say Christopher Burnette's vehicle hit a guardrail on Tom Austin Highway in Springfield and then rolled multiple times, all the way down to the bottom of a 50-foot ravine just after midnight Wednesday. Burnette, who had a broken arm but no serious injuries, was able to walk back up to the highway and wait for help. The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating the wreck.

A driver led La Mesa police on a chase Wednesday night that entered Lemon Grove and ended in a crash and arrest. No one was injured. At around 9:35 p.m. a La Mesa officer observed a driver in a white Dodge Charger run a stop sign at Waite Drive and Harris Street. The driver ignored the officer’s attempt to pull him over, kicking off a chase on state Highway 94 and city streets. The Dodge’s driver turned off his lights and attempted to lose officers by running stop signs and red traffic signals, according to a statement from La Mesa police.

A woman died in a crash in Adams County on Wednesday evening. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Phyllis A. Walls, 68, of West Union, was traveling southbound on Brush Creek Road at about 7:30 p.m. when she struck an oncoming pickup head on. Walls was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Adams County coroner. The pickup driver, Mary A. Channell, 69, of Manchester, was airlifted to UC Medical Center for treatment. The crash remains under investigation.

Authorities say more than a dozen bus passengers were injured when a pickup truck crashed into a charter bus in northern Indiana, killing the truck's driver. The LaPorte County coroner stated that the man driving the pickup truck died about 3 p.m. CST Wednesday when he lost control of his truck and it crashed into a Royal Excursion charter bus along U.S. 20. 15 adults passengers on the bus were injured, but none of their injuries were life-threatening. The station says the bus was carrying people to or from the Four Winds Casino in New Buffalo, Mich.
