Authorities in Yuma say a Pennsylvania teenager is dead after the car he was riding in crashed into a canal.

A Yuma County Sheriff's Office spokesman says 21-year-old Colton Garrett Whiteside, of Chillicothe, Mo., was driving northeast Friday just after 10 p.m. in a Chevrolet pickup truck when it went off an access road.

Police says the pickup went toward the right and into the Gila Gravity Canal, where it became submerged.

Police says Rural Metro Fire crews transported Whiteside and 19-year-old Kurt Allen Schenker, of Erie, Penn., for medical treatment.
