An Oakridge man spent the night in his wrecked car off a U.S. Forest Service road near the Hills Creek Reservoir in Lane County before a passing driver spotted him and reported the accident, Oregon State Police said Tuesday.

Russell B. Hayes, 59, apparently lost control of his car Sunday afternoon going around a right curve, went across the road and hit several trees, Oregon State Police said.

He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Springfield with serious, but not life-threatening injuries, police said.

It is with a heavy heart that we report that NBC2 Director of Meteorology Jim Reif passed away last night at 10:38 p.m.

Jim was involved in a tragic bicycle accident Sunday afternoon. While riding his bike on Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, his bicycle hit a sign, throwing him to the ground. Jim hit his head on the curb and suffered traumatic injuries to the head.

First responders were able to get to the scene in a matter of minutes because the accident happened less than a mile away from the fire station. It's unclear what caused the accident.

A man struck by a vehicle on Interstate 55 in Byram on Sunday has been identified as a 51-year-old Pearl resident.

Russell Lloyd Conley was fatally injured when he was hit by a truck as he walked on I-55 around 3:15 a.m. Sunday.

Police say the accident occurred in the construction area where there are no emergency lanes. Police believe Conley may have been walking to get gas for his vehicle, which was disabled on Siwell Road.

The driver of the truck that struck Conley faces no charges.

A woman was killed in a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 40 on Sunday night, according to Raleigh police.

Cassandra Jean Martin, 23, was a passenger in a car that ran into a disabled car in the roadway, police said in a written statement.

The incident began when a tractor-trailer truck driven by William Jerome Clyburn, 60, attempted to get onto eastbound I-40 from Hammond Road, according to police. The truck collided with a car driven by Terry Lane Thompson, 56, leaving the car disabled in the second lane from the median, according to police.

A 26-year-old Fayetteville man was killed Sunday afternoon when his car "traveled underneath a trailer and struck several trees along the highway," the Arkansas State Police said.

Ray C. Townley of Alma was driving a Kenworth truck about 1:55 p.m. on U.S. 412 in Siloam Springs when the truck turned in front of a car driven Matthew Tanner Rundle onto Fairmount Road, according to an Arkansas State Police preliminary crash report.

Prince George’s County police officials on Monday identified the man who died in a weekend motorcycle crash as 32-year-old Michael Marquis of Clinton.

Marquis was traveling north on Indian Head Highway when he crashed into a Hyundai turning from a parking lot to go south on the same road, authorities said.

“Preliminarily, it appears the driver of the Hyundai failed to yield the right of way to Marquis,” police said in a statement.

A bicyclist died Sunday night when a car hit him as he tried to cross a darkened street in north Harris County.

The incident occurred about 9:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of West Mount Houston near Big John, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said Alejandro Benito was riding a bicycle as he tried to cross the road, failing to yield the right of way to a 2008 Chevrolet Impala traveling westbound. The road was dark at the time of the crash and the bicycle had no lights.

Benito died at the scene.

A Phenix City man is dead after single-vehicle crash Sunday.

At 6:35 p.m. Sunday, 41-year-old Morris Louther Reese died after the Ford Expedition he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. The crash occurred on Lee County 207 two miles west of Smiths Station.

Nothing further is available as Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate.

A 30-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night on U.S. 1, and investigators seek to locate the unidentified hit-and-run driver.

Brent Horsmann of Cocoa died in the 11:30 p.m. crash at U.S. 1 just south of Williams Point Boulevard, a short street north of Camp Road, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.

Horsmann was pedaling north on the west paved shoulder of U.S. 1 — against the flow of traffic — when a southbound vehicle struck him, troopers said.

Two people were killed Sunday night when their small plane crashed as they filmed a zombie movie in Central Florida, officials said.

Dennis Monroe, 65, and passenger Joseph Sardinas, 70, died in the crash, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. at Monroe Airpark at Southeast 140th Street in Summerfield.

Officials said the plane was a small, two-seat, single-engine aircraft that was being used in a low-budget zombie movie that was filming in the area.

Witnesses said after a banking turn over the film site, the engine stalled and the plane went down nose-first.
