A Lake County woman died Saturday in a head-on collision on Highway 101 near Cloverdale, California. Wanda Shields, 67, of Nice, died in the collision that happened just before 9 a.m. north of Geysers Road. Shields was a passenger in 1998 Buick driven by Donald Shields, 74. They were driving south when they were hit by a 2004 Honda driven by Xaun Zau, 30, of Kirkland, Washington State, who had been driving north and swerved to avoid an object in the road, lost control of the car, entered into the southbound lanes, and crashed into the Shields’ car.

At about 5:30, Baker and a 3-year-old child were traveling northward in a Suburban while Lockhart was traveling southward in a Silverado when Lockhart suddenly crossed into the oncoming lane and struck Baker's vehicle head-on. Baker was taken to Jerold Phelps Community Hospital, but eventually pronounced dead, while Lockhart and the child that was in Baker's vehicle sustained serious injuries. Investigation is ongoing, but so far it is believed that no alcohol or drugs were involved, and that everyone was wearing a seat belt and all air bags deployed properly.

The accident occurred about 12:40 p.m. Thursday on Highway 101 south of Hollands Lane near Willits, when a 75-year-old Sebastopol man headed south in a Toyota Camry crossed into oncoming traffic for an unknown reason and slammed into a northbound 2010 Toyota Prius driven by an 89-year-old woman. The drivers of both vehicles, as well as a 62-year-old passenger in the Prius, all died at the scene, the CHP said. Another vehicle driven by Stephen Delatorre, 21, of Kelseyville, hit the rear of the Prius after it came to rest. Delatorre was not injured.

A 24-year-old Bay Area football star is killed in a violent crash and experts say he could have survived it if it hadn't been for the guard rail he struck. Darryl Blackmon died after an accident Saturday morning in Marin County. The type of guard rail he slammed into has been blamed for deaths and injuries across the country. Law enforcement officers are waiting for the results of a toxicology screen.

A motorcyclist who died Friday night after an accident on northbound Highway 101 at the Oakland Road offramp has been identified as Kenneth Johnson, 54, of Los Gatos. The accident was reported around 6:40 p.m. and traffic was diverted off the freeway's northbound lanes onto the 13th Street offramp for almost three hours while the California Highway Patrol investigated the accident site.   Local law firm has represented over 1000 motorcyclists in serious accident cases

A motorcyclist was hospitalized with a broken leg after crashing into a container truck. He was weaving in and out of traffic when he got his front tire stuck in the left rear of the truck. The truck's driver, Ren Kong, 60, reported he never saw the rider and only pulled over when he heard what sounded like a crash.

The loaded truck toppled over, trapping the driver and sending the back doors of the rig flying open. While firefighters worked to free the driver from the wrecked truck, traffic was backing up in the area. Driver's identity and condition not known.

The two people killed early Saturday morning in a crash off of U.S. Highway 101 in Menlo Park have been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as Taufa Toutai Pupunu, 27, of Redwood City and Gaudi Salgado Barrios, 26, of East Palo Alto.

The crash was reported at 1:52 a.m. Saturday on southbound Highway 101 near the Willow Road off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP officials said Barrios was speeding when she lost control of the car, which struck a tree, launched into the air and struck another tree.

San Francisco police chased an SUV wanted in connection with a Bayview district shooting down Highway 101 on Tuesday night, arresting the driver after a crash near the San Francisco International Airport, authorities said.

A search was still in progress late Tuesday for several occupants who fled from the SUV after the crash, including the shooting suspect, police said.

A man trying to cross Highway 101 on foot was struck by a car and killed late Friday night in San Jose, according to the California Highway Patrol. The victim, Christopher Codee Tarsky, 20, of Santa Cruz, was in the southbound lane south of North First Street, walking from the median toward the right shoulder. As cars swerved to avoid him, he began running. He ran into the path of a Honda Accord, landing in a right lane. As the Honda pulled to the shoulder, a sport-utility vehicle struck the man and did not stop. A second SUV also hit Tarsky, left the freeway but returned.
