Shortly before 2:30am, a car stalled in the middle lane in the middle of the intersection of Knott Avenue and N. Orangethorpe Avenue. As the driver and passenger got out and started pushing the car out of the intersection, they were hit by a truck, which killed one of them and injured the other. The truck driver properly stopped and communicated with authorities.
Authorities said the man whose truck was hit by a train Thursday night is facing a DUI charge. The light rail Sprinter was carrying 37 passengers when it struck an empty truck near Vista. The driver of the truck said it stalled on the tracks and he apparently tried to warn the oncoming Sprinter train by waving it down. However, the train struck and heavily damaged the truck. None of the people on the train or the vehicle driver were hurt.
