One person is dead after a crash on the Northbound 405 freeway in Gardena early Sunday morning.
A woman in her early 20's, later identified as Stephanie Hernandez Valerio, 21, and a man were pushing their disabled car on the NB 405 just north of the Harbor (110) Freeway when the woman was struck by a car that came up behind them, the California Highway Patrol Officer said.
Paramedics arrived on scene and declared the woman dead. It was not immediately known if alcohol played a role in the incident but speed was a factor, officials said.
The car that struck the woman stayed on scene and cooperated with the investigators, police said.
A stretch of the Northbound 405 freeway was closed while investigators were on scene and has since then been re-opened.
