A toddler and a teenager are among four people who died in a head-on car accident in Edgecombe County Sunday. The collision occurred shortly before noon near Pinetops when a car crossed the center line of NC 42 and hit another vehicle head-on. The deceased victims as Stephanie Collins, 45, Alan Thompson, 30, Mickeyla Little, 15, and Christian Thompson, 2. The surviving victim, Randy Collins of Elm City, is listed in stable condition at a Greenville hospital. Speed appears to have been a factor. Check back for more information as it becomes available.

A teen from Wendell died late Thursday after a single-car accident on N.C. Highway 231 near Applewhite Road. Joseph Warren Early lost control of his vehicle at about 9:40 p.m. near Corinth Holders. The car departed the road, hit a ditch, a power pole, and then a tree. Early was ejected from the car, and died at the crash site.

Laura Lynne Smith, of Raleigh, was diving 74 in a 45 mph zone south on Creedmoor Road when she lost control of her SUV struck a speed limit sign, rolled over, and hit four trees. Her son, Antony Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene. Smith's blood-alcohol content was allegedly .32, which is four times more than North Carolina's legal limit.

Investigators believe a man killed in a single vehicle wreck Sunday afternoon was driving in excess of 75 mph when he crashed on U.S. Highway 1 outside Pinebluff. The wreck happened when the vehicle over-corrected and struck trees on the opposite side of the road.

Officials don’t yet know how fast he was going, but 26-year-old Sergio Acero was riding his motorcycle fast enough around a curve to crash into a large concrete manhole cover. Chapel Hill police responded to a call that came in around 6:30 a.m. Saturday, and found Acero alive but severely injured along Estes Drive Extension near Seawell School Road. “It was a pretty bad crash,” said a Lt. with the Chapel Hill Police Department. “The motorcycle went one way and he went the other.” Acero died at UNC Hospital.

A man faces misdemeanor charges after a passenger died in a head-on crash on a snowy Chatham County road Wednesday. Miguel Arquimides Caseres, 45, of Siler City, was charged following a crash around 1:15 p.m. on Silk Road near Romine Pike Road. Caseres was driving a 1996 Ford car on a snow-covered road when it crossed the center line and crashed into a 1999 Chevrolet, troopers said. The passenger in the Chevrolet died. The passenger's name hasn't been released pending notification of next-of-kin. Caseres also was charged with exceeding a safe speed.
