Melford J. Elliot, the pastor of the Greater Bethel Baptist Church, was involved in a car crash on Interstate 71 that took his life. Elliott's car reportedly drifted into the median and he lost control. The car rolled over and he was thrown from the vehicle. Elliot landed on the opposite side of the highway where he was struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Elliott was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was the only person in his car. What you need to know after a serious car accident:

At around 2 p.m. on Southbound Interstate 71 two semi trucks collided, resulting in the death of one of the drivers. Authorities have not released any information on what might have caused the accident. The stretch of highway around where the accident took place is closed during the investigation.

The crash happened Saturday at 9:30 p.m. near mile marker 177 on Interstate 71. A Mansfield trooper was investigating a single-car collision when Edward Howard, 55, arrived the scene to take his family member home. Howard parked behind the trooper's patrol car, and exited his vehicle. Joseph Schramm, 33, of Mansfield, was driving north on I-71 when he lost control and struck Howard's SUV and then the patrol car. Howard was taken to Med-Central Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Schramm was taken to Ashland Samaritan Hospital with minor injuries.

Timothy Edwards, 44, of Cleveland, has been identified as the driver who was killed after crashing his vehicle in Cleveland about 6 a.m. Saturday on the West 25th Street entrance ramp to Interstate 71 northbound. According to authorities, Edwards was speeding when he lost control of his 1996 Cadillac and crashed into trees on the side of the road. It is believed that Edwards was under the influence of alcohol. He died while receiving medical treatment at MetroHealth Medical Center.
