A good samaritan stopped to help a driver that had swerved to avoid a deer, but wound up hitting the guardrail on Interstate 70. The good samaritan got out of their vehicle just as a semi was coming over a hill, and was not able to see the two people before it was two late. The semi struck both the good samaritan and the stranded driver, killing the good samaritan and sending the stranded driver to the hospital. Traffic was closed in the area for several hours while authorities investigated the accident.

A vehicle hit and killed a black bear on a two-lane roadway north of Interstate 75 on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in the Florida Everglades, and three people who had gone to the driver's aid were then struck and killed by another vehicle. When the first car, a Cadillac Escalade, collided with the animal, a second vehicle pulled over at the scene, and then a Mercedes crashed into the people who stopped to help. Some of the injured were transported by air from the remote crash site. The bear died. Four critically injured patients were airlifted to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale.

Caroline Billie was driving on Snake Road when she saw a bear in the road and couldn't stop in time to prevent hitting it. Her vehicle was seriously damaged and no longer driveable, and the bear was killed. Three vehicles that were traveling together on the road saw that she needed help and pulled over. Eight people got out of the vehicles. At the same time, Gary McInturff was driving in the opposite direction and did not see the parked vehicles. He hit one and sideswiped anoter, sending it into the people standing on the shoulder. The road was reportedly very dark at the time.
