The hiker who died after falling into a gorge near Letchworth State Park’s Lower Falls has been identified as a North Tonawanda resident.

The body of Stephen Bzibziak, 21, was recovered today, according to State Park Police. Authorities said he called 911 for help after falling into a gorge Wednesday afternoon, and his body was located several hours later by members of the State Park Police Rope Rescue Team.

A 31-year-old Ohio woman was arrested overnight for snowmobiling while intoxicated after she crashed into an ice fishing shanty, narrowly missing the three occupants, on Chautauqua Lake, sheriff’s deputies reported. Chautauqua County deputies responded at 1 a.m. to the reported accident. They found that Christina M. Black, of Burghill, Ohio, had been operating a 2006 Ski-Doo snowmobile northbound on the lake’s frozen surface, about 200 yards from the shore of Lakeside Park in Mayville, when she struck the shanty, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A school bus driver had a medical emergency and crashed in the parking lot of the Maple Grove Junior-Senior High School in the Town of Ellery about 7:58 a.m. Friday. No school children were on the bus at the time. Three parked cars were struck by the bus before it stopped in a snow bank, according to the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department.

A teenager wearing earphones was struck by a train while walking on Long Island Rail Road tracks, but officials say he's expected to survive. Authorities say 16-year-old Eric Albrecht of East Moriches suffered a broken hip and other injuries. The LIRR says he was walking along the tracks in Center Moriches around 1 p.m. Monday as a Montauk train approached. MTA police said the train was traveling about 60 mph, below the maximum allowable 65 mph.

A car crashed into a store on Long Island Thursday morning after it was struck by another car. There were no serious injuries. The car was stopped at a traffic light in Freeport when it was hit by another car that was swerving to avoid a third vehicle, according to a worker in the store. The force of the impact sent the first car into the store, which sells marble and granite.

Authorities say a Nassau County police officer was injured when he was struck by a car while attempting to arrest a robbery suspect in Queens. Police say four plainclothes Nassau County police officers approached the suspect at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday on Wexford Terrace in Queens. Police say the suspect, who was wanted for an armed robbery in Hicksville on Friday, tried to flee in his vehicle and struck one of the officers, pinning him against another car. Police say another officer fired his weapon, hitting the suspect once in the chest.

A paraglider pilot was killed after crashing through a frozen river in upstate New York Wednesday afternoon, state police say. The pilot, 47-year-old Rupert Cebular, crashed while practicing touch-and-go maneuvers on the ice-covered Wallkill River near Soons Orchard in Orange County, police say. The man broke through the ice and lost control of the paraglider. A second paraglider and workers nearby tried to pull Cebular from under the ice using a rope, but were unsuccessful. They eventually pulled his body from the river.
