An Austin man who died Dec. 29 in a crash at the interchange of Interstate 35 and Loop 410 ran off the road, into a barrier and was ejected from his car, according to a police report released Monday. Sung Min Shim, 37, was driving a 2010 Mazda Miata northbound just before 6:30 a.m. on the Binz Engleman Road ramp leaving Interstate 35 north, according to the report. He continued driving straight into a grassy and muddy area off the road and spun into the concrete barrier that separates the interstate from the Loop 410 embankment, according to police.

A 5-year-old was critically injured after a car hit a tree overnight in Auburn. The 21-year-old male driver and an 8-year-old girl have non-life threatening injuries. The car was traveling 90 mph when it ran off the road around 2:30 a.m. and hit a tree on Auburn Way South. Emergency crews had to help free the man and boy after they were trapped in the car. Authorities say the girl managed to get out without help. Police are investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor in the accident.

John Vausha, 62, was driving on Ind. 64 about 6:45 p.m. when a witness saw his vehicle leave the road. The vehicle traveled 500 feet before landing in a pond. Officials are unsure what caused Vausha to drive off the road. Crawford County firefighters pulled Vausha from his car, but the man was unresponsive. Vausha was flown to Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, where he was pronounced dead.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly accident that happened Saturday night. Troopers say a truck driver was driving on I-77, near the Mount Holly-Huntersville Road Overpass, when he drove his truck off the road and overturned. The truck driver was pronounced dead on the scene. Fifty-five gallons of oil was thrown from the truck, but it has been cleaned up since the accident.

Two people were killed and three others were taken to the hospital after a horrific car crash in San Bernardino on Sunday. The accident happened in the 3500 block of Ridgeline Drive around 1 a.m., San Bernardino County Fire said. Three people were ejected from the car and two others were trapped inside after it went 150 yards down the side of a hill and ended up in a ravine, San Bernardino County Fire said. A man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Firefighters found the other man who was ejected. He was immediately rescued and transported to the hospital.

Two Raleigh men were killed Friday evening when the car they were in went out of control, hit a curb, left the road and struck three trees on Lynn Road in North Raleigh. The driver, Logan Sloan Aronson of Raleigh, and his passenger, Edward Blake Tolley of Raleigh, both 23, were pronounced dead at the scene. The accident happened about 7 p.m. near the intersection of Lynn and Lead Mine roads. The speed limit on that part of Lynn Road is 45 mph, but police estimated that the 2003 Acura, headed westbound toward Lead Mine, was traveling 90 mph when it left the road.

A 65-year-old Jamestown man was airlifted to a Pennsylvania hospital following a one-car accident in the Chautauqua Town of Ellery, sheriff’s deputies reported today. Calvin B. Olson was driving north on Slide Fenner Road, at about 12:20 p.m. Monday, when his vehicle left the east side of the road and hit a utility pole, deputies said. Olson was airlifted to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, Pa., with unknown injuries; information about his condition wasn’t available this morning. Deputies said their investigation continues.

A Beverly man was killed in a single-vehicle crash along Ohio 60 in Morgan County Sunday morning. Gary E. Combs, 66, was driving north on Ohio 60 in Center Township when the accident occurred around 9:05 a.m., according to a report from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Marietta Post. Police said Combs' vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. No alcohol or drugs are suspected in the crash and Combs was wearing a seatbelt. The accident remains under investigation by OSHP.

Three men were killed Saturday night when their car slammed into a tree in Willow Spring in Johnston County, about 6 miles east of Angier. State troopers said Douglas Ray Baldwin, 46, of Wild Jasmine Court in Willow Spring, was driving west at a high speed when he ran off Dupree Road and struck a tree just before 10 p.m. Witnesses said they heard a boom just before the crash and then saw the car flip before impact. The car split, they said, and glass was embedded in the tree more than 12 feet high.
