At about 4:10 a.m., a 26-year-old woman who was driving south on Bethel Avenue neared the intersection with Manning Avenue, which was marked by a stop sign. The woman, identified as Christina Rodriguez, either did not stop or failed to properly yield, as she drove into the path of a westbound car driven by Demetrio Salinas, 47, of Parlier, on Manning Avenue, which struck her car on the driver's side, leaving her dead at the scene. The driver of the westbound vehicle was seriously injured and taken to the hospital.

At around 10:30am, 6 elderly women were in a van on their way to a luncheon when they came to a stop sign. The driver, Deanna Anderson, properly stopped at the stop sign, but did not properly yield to cross-traffic, and the van was hit by a pickup truck. Five of the six women in the van were killed, and another unidentified woman was injured, while four who were in the pickup truck sustained minor injuries.

Calderon was traveling southbound on Bristol in a Lexus when he ran a red light at Central and broadsided a Honda. The impact caused the the Honda to then collide with a Chevrolet pickup truck. Calderon was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested at the scene. He and three passengers in the Lexus were transported to a hospital with minor injuries. One of the Honda’s three occupants, Robert Rubio, 18, died at the scene, and the other two were taken to a hospital in stable condition. The two people in the Chevrolet were not injured.

The driver and three passengers in the Volvo were transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center, where Deadra Griffin, 60, the passenger in the front seat, died of her injuries. The driver suffered a fractured hip, while one passenger in the back seat suffered a fractured vertebrae and the other passenger complained of pain to his entire body, according to the CHP.
