Saturday, Vigo County Sheriff's Deputies along with Indiana State Police and Otter Creek Fire Department responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a minivan and a CSX Railroad train near the intersection of Evans Ave and Dwelling Rd.

The driver, 79 year old Ray M Scheid of Terre Haute, IN was transported to Union Hospital with head and leg trauma.

Initial indications show that Mr. Scheid was westbound on Evans Ave when the train northbound struck the drivers rear section of the minivan.

Crisis counselors were at a northwest Indiana school Monday after a teacher was one of two people killed in a roadside accident over the weekend. The other victim was a man who had tried to help that teacher just hours after he had gotten married. Three cars ran the two over on the side of a road. William Riley Knight was on the way home from his wedding reception when he stopped to help Linda Darlington, whose car had gone into a ditch just before 12 a.m. Sunday along 109th Avenue near Lane Street in Crown Point, Ind.

Eight people were taken to local hospitals Saturday afternoon after a crash.

It happened just after 1 p.m. Saturday at Southeastern Parkway and Connecticut Avenue.

Officers at the scene say a 17-year-old from Fishers, who was driving a black Chrysler 200 on Connecticut Avenue, failed to stop at the intersection at Southeastern Avenue and crashed with a white Chevrolet Traverse. That car was driven by a 31-year-old Noblesville man.

Emergency crews had to free one of the Traverse passengers after that person was trapped inside.

Northbound lanes of traffic on Interstate 65 in Indiana are shut down after a tanker truck rolled over Saturday morning.

The northbound lanes were shut down on the expressway near Interstate 80/94 about 9 a.m., Indiana State Police said.

Traffic there could be shut down for more than two hours as HazMat crews clear the scene, according to the Indiana Dept. of Transportation.

I-65 traffic can exit westbound onto 1-94 but not eastbound, according to INDOT.

State Road 39 re-opened in Boone County Friday morning following a crash.

The crash involved multiple vehicles.

Around 7:20 a.m., SR 39 was closed between Blubaugh Avenue and 800 North due to the crash. About an hour later, it was back open.

The Sheriff's Office reported someone was injured, but the extent of those injuries wasn't immediately known.

A car traveling west on I-64 near mile marker 106 struck a sport utility vehicle traveling east, and the driver of the car and a passenger in the SUV were killed. The 2-year-old girl was identified as Merissa Summers. The coroner said he wasn't releasing the name of the sailor, who is based in Virginia, because his family had not been notified.

All lanes have reopened on Interstate 80/94 in northwest Indiana after three semi trucks and one car were involved in a crash Wednesday morning, closing all eastbound lanes to traffic just in time for the morning commute.

Officers responded to the crash about 5:50 a.m. near the Cline Avenue exit in Gary, Ind., Indiana State Police said. There were no injuries, according to an Indiana State Police spokesman.

Three semi trucks and one passenger car were involved in the crash, police said.

A multiple-car pileup on the northbound lanes of I-65 near County Line Road left at least one motorist injured and snagged rush-hour traffic.

The scene was cleared and lanes reopened by 9:30 a.m.

The accident happened around 7:30 a.m.

Crews were extricating at least one injured motorist from a vehicle, according to police-fire radio traffic.

The accident was reported at 10:40 a.m. on the interstate near the exit to Lewis and Clark Parkway. Police determined the driver ran over an expansion joint on the interstate that jarred the truck, forcing open the unlocked gate on the bed of the truck and causing the spill that closed three of the four lanes until Indiana Department of Transportation crews could clear it. There were six secondary crashes that happened as a result of the spill, but no one was injured.

A head-on crash involving a semi and another vehicle killed one person in Shelby County this afternoon. The crash occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Ind. 44, near Old Franklin Road. Authorities suspect that the passenger vehicle and semi were traveling in opposite directions, when the driver of the passenger vehicle heading west drove into the direction of the eastbound semi. The passenger vehicle’s driver, who has not been identified, was killed. The semi driver was not injured.
