Michael A. Wayner of Friday Harbor was killed early Sunday afternoon when he lost control of his motorcycle while allegedly passing illegally on a curve. He was headed uphill when he attempted to pass on a double yellow line, and the motorcycle sailed over a cliff along the Mount Baker Highway near Milepost 49, and Wayner was dead at the scene. According to the Washington State Patrol report, he was wearing a helmet but did not have a motorcycle endorsement for his driver’s license.

A driver with a suspended license was driving a pickup truck when they crossed the center line and struck another car head-on. Another car that was passing through the area at the same time hit a utility pole while trying to avoid crashing. There were two passengers in the truck, one with life-threatening injuries and another who was seriously injured. The driver of the truck was not hurt. The car that was hit had two people in it, a driver and a passenger. Both were hurt, one with serious injuries. The people in the car that hit the utility pole suffered minor injuries.

At around 10 p.m., Sharon Ferg of Spokane was southbound in a 1973 Dodge motor home on Highway 2 near Nevada Street when she tried to turn left and was struck by a northbound Nissan Versa driven by Roger Tracy of Elk. The RV tipped over onto its side. Ferg and her passenger, Aaron Kreitz, were taken to Providence Holy Family hospital, as were Roger Tracy and his passenger, Jenny Tracy. No information was available on their condition. All parties were wearing seatbelts. Ferg faces charges of driving with a suspended license and no insurance, according to Washingtn State Police.

Passengers Chasity Gardee, 29 and Antonio Ladesma, 14, injured in 5-car pileup on I-82 just east of Ellensburg, Washington.   The accident was caused when Jose A. Reyes Izaguirre, 30 of Tacoma, WA was stopped in the road after hitting the guardrail. Reyes was cited for driving with a suspended license. Other parties involved, Megan Weimer-Wallace, 35, of Richland, Karen Larrea, 64, of Yakima, Jennifer E. Graham, 41 of Yakima, Randi Bonari, 60 of Auburn, and Frederick W. Cox, 45, of Ravensdale were uninjured.

A portion of Lakeway Drive was closed early Thursday morning, April 17, after a woman crashed her SUV into a power pole, according to the Bellingham Police Department. Police believe Tawny Lesha Julius, 22, was intoxicated when she crashed her 2002 Cadillac Escalade into a power pole near Lisa Lane just before 2 a.m., causing the pole to buckle and collapse onto her car, police spokesman Bob Vander Yacht said. Puget Sound Energy had to respond to the crash scene, where wires were dangling over the road, and traffic had to be rerouted.

Officers said two Cadillacs were racing on North Foothills Drive east of Division when one of them rammed into a Pathfinder Sunday afternoon. The woman driving the Pathfinder said she was only going about 5 miles per hour when the speeding Cadillac hit her car and forced her off the road. Police said the woman who caused the crash initially got out of her car and ran away, but officers caught up to her and arrested her. She was arrested for driving with a suspended license. Police said she also had two warrants out for her arrest.
